I began reading Normal People shortly after I bought the novel, and I tore through it in the span of just a few hours. I had heard from several friends who read it that they loved it, and although I knew of the vast amount of praise that Rooney’s book was receiving, I was also aware of the mixed reviews – people either loved the book or they did not care for it – and that HBO had released a 12-part show of the novel in April of 2020 which I had not seen yet, but I have always preferred to read the book before watching the show or movie anyways. This January, I picked up a copy of the novel Normal People by Sally Rooney whilst visiting my family back home in hopes to get out of my reading slump that was lasting longer than I care to admit. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() * A statement that the "information in the notification is accurate", and "under penalty of perjury, the complaining party is authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed" * A statement that the complaining party "in good faith believes that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or law" * Information reasonably sufficient to permit the service provider to contact the complaining party, such as an address, telephone number, and, if available, an electronic mail address * Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing or to be the subject of the infringing activity and that is to be removed * A physical or electronic signature of a person authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed ![]() ![]() ![]() This is a TRANSFORMERS Rescue Bots adventure that happens as you read it, and it will help early readers practice the basics of reading and word usage in a fun and captivating way." Lol. ![]() Really, I’d like to say that aspect is kind of refreshing however it became a bit unrealistic and far too convenient for the story. Even his Dad isn’t that much of an a-hole as it turned out. He’s just super focused, super nice and just perfect altogether. Jason was the god of football in their campus but I find his character a bit on the bland side. I was looking for more tension and won’t mind a longer explanation or even a confrontational scene involving someone from Derek’s past. I would’ve liked a much broader story development though in terms of their backgrounds.ĭerek has a great story to tell and it was reduced to a couple of scenes where he just explained everything to Jason – it went far too easy in my opinion. Everything’s smooth-sailing about it from the meeting of the two main characters, the development of their feelings up to that sappy happy ending. I liked this book because it’s very easy to read. Summary: Two college football players who slowly succumb into their growing attraction between them while trying to manage their hectic lives. ![]() ![]() ![]() The novel is set centuries into the future, where earth is part of a polity called the Terran Federation, a spacefaring civilization that extends humanity throughout the galaxy. But it is also a commentary on the qualities of a political structure that result in a durable social order. The novel, told from the perspective of infantryman Juan “Johnnie” Rico, primarily depicts the transformation of a civilian into a soldier. Instead, it is an exploration of certain sociopolitical truths that, if ignored, doom a civilization to self-parody by the hemorrhaging of civic virtue. ![]() My claim is simple: Starship Troopers is not fascist. ![]() Putting the movie aside, I want to explore the political economy of the novel itself. This debate is muddied by the 1997 movie based on the book, which the filmmakers intentionally used as an artistic opportunity to engage in a reductio ad absurdum of militaristic culture. I am afraid there is no getting around using the f-word here-there is significant debate as to whether Starship Troopers, which glorifies martial virtues and a highly authoritarian political constitution, is fascist. Unlike many science fiction novels, the longevity of Starship Troopers’ reputation has at least as much to do with controversies over its themes as the quality of the writing and storytelling. Starship Troopers is perhaps the best-known novel of science fiction master Robert A. ![]() ![]() ![]() The devil is always in the details, and novelist Grady Hendrix, who wrote the screenplay from a story he wrote with Ted Geoghegan ( Mohawk, We Are Still Here), can find them with the Dewey Decimal System.
